PDC frequently works with utilities to perform detailed cable engineering work for a project - and we train the utility's engineers so they can maintain the system and design the next one themselves. A partial list of the types of projects in which PDC engineers have direct experience is given below:
- Initial planning studies to compare the suitability of different cable system types for specific applications, and preparing budgetary estimates
- Environmental impact reviews, including magnetic field analysis Technical support at public meetings and permit hearings
- Preliminary and detailed cable system design calculations, including ampacity, sheath voltages, short circuit capability, magnetic fields, ground conductor sizing, impedance, pulling tension, manhole spacing, etc.
- Purchase and installation specifications, for fully engineered and turnkey projects
- Bid preparation and proposal evaluation for equipment and installation
- Vendor's drawings and design calculation reviews
- Represent client for factory inspection and acceptance tests
- Operation and maintenance manual preparation
- Training for utility engineers, operators, and mechanics on cable system principles, design and operation & maintenance
