Power Delivery Consultants, Inc. is an engineering-consulting firm that services the electric power industry with experienced staff in the areas of overhead line and underground cable design, power transformer ratings, and T&D- related engineering support for uprating, operating & maintenance, failure investigation, training, and computer software.
With our combined overhead line and power cable expertise, we offer the unique ability to provide the "full menu" of services for transmission and distribution power delivery. Services are provided to electric utilities, research organizations, merchant power producers and manufacturers. In addition, PDC frequently provides engineering expertise as a subcontractor to architect-engineering firms for large transmission or distribution projects.
Power Delivery Consultants, Inc. (PDC) specializes in providing engineering services to clients working with underground, submarine, and aerial electric power cable systems, overhead lines and related equipment, and transformers. Our staff of engineers averages over 35 years experience with background in manufacturing, application engineering, utility systems, R&D and industrials. We can provide engineering services to assist with the design or modification of existing distribution and transmission circuits, ampacity calculations, uprating of older lines including an evaluation of remaining life, and field testing services.
PDC engineers provide our clients in the electric utility industry with practical, state-of-the-art engineering guidance. PDC's clients benefit from our many years of experience with utility projects, our extensive activities with technical societies such as the IEEE Insulated Conductors Committee (ICC) and Towers, Poles and Conductors (TPC) Committee, and CIGRE Study Committees 21 and 22, and our key roles in much of the important cable engineering research in the United States and abroad.
PDC engineers have authored more than 150 technical papers and articles, and have written more than half of the 1992 EPRI Underground Transmission Systems Reference Book, most of the 1994 Southwire Overhead Conductor Manual, and include three of the principal authors for the Transmission Systems section of the McGraw-Hill Standard Handbook for Electrical Engineers (14th Edition). We have also been principal authors and investigators for technical reports from organizations such as the Electric Power Research Institute.
PDC applies specialized skills to a variety of challenging projects. Some examples of our recent work include designing a 230kV XLPE Transmission Cable in Indonesia, development of a 345kV SCFF Submarine Cable Corrosion Protection System, design of a 138kV XLPE Cable in Pennsylvania, research engineering for a Distribution Cable Test Site, several types of Field Measurements, Ampacity Audits & Uprating on existing cable systems, Operation & Maintenance Services for new and existing circuits, and overall New Circuit Design. We would enjoy discussing our recent projects with you and look forward to you contacting us.
Our experience is shared in the many courses and seminars that we have prepared and presented to the utility industry. These courses cover R&D activities, line- and cable-related system-planning studies, system design, specification and installation, and system operation and maintenance. PDC offers general courses that are attended by engineers from many utilities, plus customized courses - with utility-specific notes - given at an individual utility. These courses combine practical design experience with the latest technology, and reflect a good understanding of how lines, cables and transformers integrate into the utility T&D system while providing an overall technical understanding and analytical know-how where appropriate. This is in contrast to many seminars which are based primarily on textbook information or, at the other extreme, practical, but dated, experience.
PDC's main office is located in New York State in the Albany area. In addition, we have regional offices in the Albuquerque, New Mexico and Boston, Massachusetts areas. We are available by telephone, internet (e-mail and this web site), and fax and always welcome an opportunity to meet with you in person.
